βIn fact, the perverse incentive structures on these platforms are already skewing the composition of cultural artefacts.β This part fascinates me and I feel like I could read a long essay about just this subject. Any recommendations?
I'll think on it - this surfaced in some research I was doing earlier this year with Jesse Hirsh. Two books - "Spotify Teardown" and "Everything and Less" (which is all about Amazon) touch on the medium thing. I'm not sure I've come across one essay that surveys how different platforms skew the construction of artefacts but that doesn't mean it isn't out there! Thanks for reading, AV.
